New York I see as one of the great multicultural cities, with it's roots firmly based in foreign countries, and a destination for immigrants for hundreds of years. I chose a 1980s graffiti style (somewhere between Haring and Basquiat) using simplistic primary colors. This is to oversimplify the multiculturalism and plurality of views in the US currently to represent what I feel is a major problem in today's america which is the extreme polarisation and increasing inequality. Rich or Poor. Black or White. Left or Right. Male or Female. Pro Life or Pro Choice. Having led so much for so long on the global stage, the United States seems to be struggling to find nuance and balance in some of the issues that affect people.
